Is there anyone who hasn’t heard about overnight oats yet? I am pretty sure it is very unlikely. Overnight oats became a staple in our morning routine a long time ago. While I still prefer cooked porridge with peanut butter and maple syrup, my kids love overnight oats for breakfast and especially if they taste like chocolate.

How To Make Overnight Oats?

To make overnight oats is incredibly easy. It is nearly impossible to do anything wrong. Overnight oats are usually made with oats, milk, and yogurt. However, in this recipe, I substituted yogurt for chia seeds just to try something new. They add extra creaminess to the texture.

To make this chocolate and cinnamon overnight oats simply combine all ingredients in a large jar, mix well, and make sure that everything, especially the chia seeds, are evenly distributed. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Are these overnight oats vegan?

This recipe is vegan. I am using almond milk for my overnight oats, but you are free to use any kind of milk you prefer. Thanks to the chia seeds, this recipe doesn’t require yogurt.

How Long Do Overnight Oats Last In The Fridge?

In some resources, you might read that overnight oats will last in the fridge for up to seven days. However, I would not recommend keeping them refrigerated for so long especially if you are using dairy milk. I would suggest you consume them within 2 to 3 days. And to be honest, ours are gone within two days anyway.

Making Overnight Oats For A Family

Most of the overnight oats recipes on the web are presented in those cute little mason jars. It looks great, but I don’t have time to arrange them like this. I just mix all the ingredients in one big glass jar and serve them in small bowls in the morning. But you are of course free to do it any way you like.

Hot or Cold?

Usually, overnight oats are enjoyed cold straight out of the fridge. However, if you like your oats warm you can easily do it by microwaving them for 30-40 seconds or warming them up in a small saucepan on the stove.

It is hard not to like overnight oats. Once you have tried them it will quickly become your go-to speedy and well-balanced breakfast.
