We have all heard a million times about how important it is to drink enough water. But how many of us are actually doing it? Do you drink enough water?

The Internet is overflowing with health advice. Most of the time they are very controversial. You can literally find 100 articles about the benefits of using coconut oil and just as many that will tell you why you shouldn’t use it. However, there is one thing that everyone seems to agree on. And this is because drinking water is essential for our health and wellbeing. Why is it so?

The human body is composed of trillions of cellsWater is the most abundant molecule in cells and accounts for 70% of total cell mass. In a dehydrated body, cells begin to shrivel and malfunction.

Importance of water for the human brain

Our brain, for example, consists of 80% water, and even slight dehydration leads to headache, fatigue, mental fog, and poor sleep. So if you have any of those symptoms on an ongoing basis you might need to have a look at how much water you have in a day.

Benefits of drinking water for skin

Does your skin look dull and has it lost its elasticity? Again, it is one of the signs of being dehydrated. If you want to have glowing and young-looking skin you need to hydrate it. Skin is our biggest organ and contains 65% water. Drinking enough water increases blood flow to the skin which improves the skin tone.

You can use the best moisturizers on the planet but without hydration from the inside, they will all fail. The elasticity of the skin can only be maintained by giving skin cells enough water. It will also help to reduce premature aging and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Importance of water for the blood

Our blood is 90% water!! This is a big number! Keeping your blood hydrated helps your heart to pump blood more easily and allows oxygen and nutrients to reach cells more easily. This will improve your brain’s thinking and concentration ability, will make your muscles work more efficiently, and as mentioned above will make your skin glow.

These are only a few reasons why we need to make sure we have a high water intake during the day.

Here is a quick tip, pay attention to your urine. If your urine has a dark yellow color it is often a sign that your body is dehydrated. The normal urine color is light yellow.

Tips to help you to stay hydrated

If you find that drinking water is boring you can try a couple of different things instead. You can try drinking:

  • coconut water
  • herbal teas
  • plant-based milk
  • freshly pressed vegetable juice
  • vegetable or bone broth

Try drinking infused water. Just add a couple of slices of cucumber, lemon, some berries, and fresh herbs to your water and you will have a beautiful looking, very tasty, and refreshing alternative to plain water. It is also a fun activity to do with the kids.

It is a good idea to put a big jug of water (or any drink mentioned above) somewhere where you can easily see it during the day and it will hopefully remind you to drink more.

As you can see staying hydrated is vital to our health and I hope that I could remind you of this importance. Do you drink enough water? What are your tips on staying hydrated? Let me know in the comments below.
