When it comes to summer cooking we all want it to be light and easy. Salads such as Mediterranean Chickpea Salad or Rocket Salad with Grilled Pears are the perfect examples of simple summer dishes. And of course, Caprese Salad should not be missed. This Italian classic salad is popular for a good reason.

Why should you try Burrata Caprese Salad

Easy-to-make: Caprese Salad is incredibly simple to prepare, making it perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends. With just a few fresh ingredients—ripe tomatoes, creamy Burrata cheese, basil leaves, and a drizzle of olive oil—you can whip up this delicious salad in minutes.

Kid-Friendly: Children often enjoy foods with simple, familiar flavors, and Burrata Caprese salad is a perfect example. The creamy texture of the Burrata cheese paired with juicy tomatoes and aromatic basil is appealing to kids’ palates. Ask them to help to make it. They can help tear the basil leaves or arrange the ingredients on the plate.

Show stopper: Despite its simplicity, Caprese salad with Burrata cheese has an elegant and sophisticated appearance that will impress guests at any gathering. The vibrant colors of the tomatoes and basil, combined with the creamy white center of the Burrata cheese, create a stunning dish that looks straight from a gourmet restaurant. Serve it with crostinis, toasted bread slices, and chilled white wine for a perfect start to any gathering.

Ingredient Notes:

With simple recipes like Caprese Salad with Burrata, there is nowhere to hide. The taste if this salad depends on the quality of the ingredients you use.

  • Burrata Cheese. If possible look for Italian burrata at the gourmet food stores for a real Mediterranean experience.
  • Tomatoes. You can use any tomatoes you like as long as they are nice and ripe. My favorite to make Caprese salad are helium tomatoes. But cherry tomatoes can be a great choice too because they are so sweet and always available in the supermarkets.
  • Olive oil. Opt for a good quality extra virgin olive oil.
  • Salt and pepper. Yes, even salt and pepper have to be good quality to make this Italian salad. Look for sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper to make this recipe.

Substitutions & Variations

Burrata cheese. At times it might be not easy to find authentic burrata cheese. In such instances, you can consider substituting fresh mozzarella cheese for a similar creamy texture and mild flavor. Alternatively, you could also use buffalo mozzarella or even creamy feta cheese as a delicious alternative in your Burrata Caprese Salad.

Balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze. The authentic Caprese Salad does NOT require balsamic vinegar of any kind. It will simply ruin the taste of stracciatella from burrata and the sweetness of tomatoes. However adding balsamic vinegar became quite popular so if you feel like you want to add some, go ahead and enjoy!

Savings Tips:

Burrata can be quite pricey. You can use fresh mozzarella cheese instead of burrata for a budget-friendly option.
