Frozen yogurt

Frozen yogurt has become very popular worldwide and is seen as a healthier alternative to ice cream.

However, in many cases, frozen yogurt might not be as good for you as you might think. Thickeners, preservatives, and emulsifiers are commonly used in commercial frozen yogurt.

This is why I love this homemade recipe so much. While it may not be exactly like store-bought frozen yogurt, it tastes delicious, and you have total control over the ingredients.

This frozen yogurt bark is a delicious addition to your diet, and I guarantee your whole family will love it.

Ingredients for chocolate frozen yogurt bark

As promised, this wholesome dessert requires only a few simple ingredients. Let’s explore what we will need:

  1. Full-fat Greek yogurt: I recommend using full-fat yogurt, preferably organic because low-fat yogurt doesn’t freeze well. Avoid flavored yogurt, because it often contains artificial flavors and colors.
  2. Maple Syrup: Nature’s liquid gold. Pure maple syrup adds natural sweetness to the mix, without any refined sugars.
  3. Organic Chocolate Powder: Chocolate powder infuses the yogurt with a decadent cocoa flavor.
  4. Shredded Coconut: A small amount of coconut adds a chewy texture and tropical twist to this simple dessert.
  5. Smooth Peanut Butter: Last but not least, the peanut butter! My favorite topping. Look for peanut butter that has one ingredient only – peanuts.

How to make frozen yogurt bark

  • Prepare a baking tray by lining it with parchment paper. Ensure the tray is small enough to fit into your freezer.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the plain Greek yogurt with maple syrup, chocolate powder, and a sprinkle of shredded coconut. Mix everything together until well blended.
  • Pour the yogurt mixture into the lined tray or mold. Swirl dollops of smooth peanut butter into the mixture for a delightful nutty flavor.
  • Sprinkle additional coconut flakes on top to add extra texture to the frozen yogurt.
  • Place the tray in the freezer and let it set for 2-3 hours or until the yogurt becomes firm.
  • Once the frozen yogurt is set, remove the tray from the freezer and place it on a chopping board.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the frozen yogurt mixture into slices. Adjust the thickness of the slices to your preference.

And just like this, your delicious snack is now ready to be enjoyed!

Variations

While I find this recipe perfect as it is, here are a couple of fun ideas you can try to customize your chocolate frozen yogurt bark:

  1. Fruity Delight: Add a burst of freshness by sprinkling a mix of fresh berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries on top of the frozen yogurt bark. They will provide a great pop of color and fruity flavor.
  2. Crunchy Nut Medley: Boost the texture by incorporating a variety of chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts, and pistachios. The nutty goodness complements the creamy yogurt and adds a satisfying crunch with every bite.
  3. Granola Goodness: For a wholesome twist, sprinkle your favorite granola on top of the yogurt before freezing it.
  4. Choco-Strawberry Twist: Add some chocolate chips to the yogurt mixture and drizzle melted chocolate over the yogurt before freezing.
  5. Berry Bliss: Mix in a spoonful of your favorite berry jam or preserves into the yogurt before freezing. Swirl it gently to create a beautiful marbled effect, and then top it with fresh berries.
  6. Dairy-Free and Vegan: Make it dairy-free and vegan by using dairy-free yogurts such as coconut yogurt or almond milk yogurt. This way, everyone can enjoy this delicious treat!
  7. Extra Protein Boost: Finally, add some chia seeds for an extra protein boost. They not only add protein but also create a fun texture in the frozen yogurt bark.

Enjoy experimenting with your favorite toppings!

How to store

As frozen yogurt melts quickly, it’s essential to store the slices quickly. After cutting the frozen yogurt into slices, place them in an airtight container or a freezer bag.

Freeze them for up to 3 months. When craving a quick and easy snack, take out just one piece at a time to enjoy the deliciousness without thawing the entire batch.
